DAVID AJIBOYE SPEAKS AFTER SIGNING TWO-YEAR DEAL

.

We spoke to David Ajiboye after he joined the Blues on a two-year deal.

Speaking to CUTV, David said: “I'm delighted to get it over the line. It's been a few weeks but I'm happy to be here now.

“I came a couple of weeks ago to look around the place. I saw lots of improvements they've made around here and obviously Mark Hughes, he speaks for himself, he was speaking good of the club and what he wants and aspirations and that's something I want to be a part of.”

Having spent the majority of his career down south, David explained why he had made the switch to Cumbria, saying: “Just the project. Obviously, I'm aware that the last two seasons haven't been great and we need a project to get back into the Football League and hopefully keep climbing.

“I want to be a part of that.”

David then discussed his career so far, beginning with his time at Milwall and Brighton, stating: “It's different. Obviously, Brighton, they just got promoted while I was there. It was good.

“Compared to Millwall, it was a bit more segregated between the first team and 23s. Millwall was more like everyone is part of one team. So, that was a difference I noticed.

“That was probably the biggest one. Involvement with training with the first team was more regular as well.”

In that period, David had a loan spell with Worthing, where he enjoyed a successful spell.

“I had a loan and then eventually signed permanently the following season. I got to play and express myself and do what I can do best in the men's game. Doing that at a young age, I think, has helped me.”

That lead to a move to Sutton United, David spoke on his time there: "It was really good. It was a really good bunch. Obviously, getting promoted was really good.

“When we were in the EFL, we got to the EFL Trophy Final, which was a really great experience playing at Wembley. Unfortunately, we didn't win but it was the first time playing there. I think everyone that played there was really proud of the club and the players.

“It was really good and I'm grateful for the opportunity I had there.”

During that campaign, David also made the National League Team of the Season, before moving on to Peterborough.

“I wasn't expecting it but I was proud of that, definitely.

“It was a bit of a stop and start after that. First season wasn't the best in terms of appearances. I had to go on loan back to Sutton.

“Second season was much better. It was a good season. I was way more involved and started quite a few more games. We won the EFL Trophy. That was a good one for me.

"Third season after that, I was on the transfer list. I was just seeing what can happen really and nothing really materialised until they said that I wasn’t going to be playing. So, I had to go on loan again and just try and play because not playing is probably the worst thing in football.”

David also spent time at York City and Newport County, building some key experience at this level.

“I've played at this level quite a bit. I'm not sure if most of the team have. So, if I can give any light to anything that might help, then I'm here to do that.”

On his style of play, Ajiboye explained: “I like to take my man on, get crosses and shots off.

“I like to say I work hard and try and work hard anyway because the game can be tiring. I like to work hard and just get on the ball and try and get the fans off their seats.

“I'd be delighted if we can get promoted. Obviously, that's the aim. So, hopefully, that's what we can do.”
