United boss Paul Simpson spoke about long-serving kitman Colin Nixon after the game on Saturday, with the news revealed this week that he’s set to move on at the end of the campaign.
“We’ve had conversations with Colin and he’s decided that he wants to retire at the end of the season,” he told us. “He’s going to be moving on.
“To be honest with you, I started the conversation because to come in as the kit man, it’s not something that somebody can just come into the building overnight and do.
“I asked Col what his plans for the future were, because you can’t carry on forever. He’s had a think and there now has to be a transition period where somebody learns the job, unless they’re already experienced in it.
“We’ve got Deano helping at the moment, he’s experienced at it, but he has another job so he can’t do full time.
“We’ve got Emma and Karen who work in the laundry and they do a brilliant job, helping Colin, so we need the right person to come in, somebody who knows how to do the job and can learn how to do it.
“Somebody who can be trustworthy and somebody who’s the right person to fit into our staff that we’ve got. That will all evolve over the season, and we see where we go from there.
“It’s just one of those things where life moves on, life changes. We’ve advertised, we’ll see who applies for it, and we’ll make that decision as we go further forward.”
