opposition

Northampton have been right up there since the start of the season and they currently occupy second spot, just three points ahead of the Blues.

They won four or their five league games in March, which saw them cement their place in the upper reaches. A draw against Stevenage and defeat at the hands of Newport made it a tougher April, but they were back to winning ways last weekend courtesy of a superb late winner against Gillingham from William Hondermarck.

Away from the football the dispute over the disposal of land next to the Sixfields stadium rumbles on, and has been subect to a judicial review.

A final decision is expected from the judge at a later date.

who watch

Sam Hoskins is having a fantastic season ... is exactly what we wrote back in December, and that hasn't changed.

20 goals from 37 appearances in all competitions for the livewire suggests a man in form.

The problems he can cause have been there for all to see, so he's definitely one to watch.

Jack Armer gave United the lead early in the second half at Sixfields in December 2022, but Sam Sherring and Louis Appere netted within minutes to give the home team the advantage - and that's how it stayed.

Watch the highlights from that game here:

It was a dramatic victory for the Blues at Brunton Park in March 2022 with three late goals to up the blood pressure. Tobi Sho-Silva netted with 15 minutes left to go, but Paul Lewis quickly levelled things up. It was left to Jordan Gibson to claim the points from the spot deep into time added on.

The Cobblers swept United aside in October 2021 with a convincing 3-0 home win. Paul Lewis netted a hat-trick on the day.

Watch the highlights from that game here:

Northampton took the points away from Brunton Park in October 2019 with second half goals from Scott Pollock and Sam Hoskins.

Watch the highlights from that game here:

The teams met in January 2019 when the Cobblers claimed a 3-0 home victory. A certain fella called Jack Bridge notched a brace, with Junior Morias also on target for the hosts.

Watch the highlights of that game here:

We went up against Northampton for the first time last season in August when the teams played out a 2-2 draw. Jamie Devitt gave the Blues the lead with a stunning strike on the half hour, but Kevin van Veen pulled things level just before the break. Matt Crooks put the visitors ahead midway through the second half, but the lead lasted just 60 seconds as Hallam Hope struck back in the very next attack.

officials

Referee - Rebecca Welch
Assistant Referee 1 - Alex Gray
Assistant Referee 2 - Paul Newhouse
Fourth Official - Peter Gooch
Observer - Gary Kellett

Our referee for this game is Rebecca Welch. Rebecca has taken charge of 18 games so far this season, showing 58 yellow cards and no reds.

A veteran of Women's FA Cup finals and the National League, this is the fourth time she's officiated for a Carlisle United game.

She was in charge for the pre-season friendly meeting with Hebburn Town in July 2021 where Tristan Abrahams scored both goals (one from the spot) in a 2-0 victory.

And we saw her again for our 2-2 home draw with Scunthorpe at Brunton Park in September 2021. Jordan Gibson and Brennan Dickenson bagged a goal each in the closing stages to earn a 2-2- draw, and there were no United names taken on the day.

A humbling 3-0 defeat at Harrogate in April 2022 brought yellow cards for Morgan Feeney and Danny Devine, on a day largely to be forgotten for the Blues.

She took charge of our September 2022 Football League Trophy group game against Fleetwood, with a late goal from Duncan Idehen taking the tie to penalties, after Joe Garner had put the visitors ahead just after the break. The Blues won 4-2 from the spot. Jayden Harris was the only Carlisle booking on the night.
