FA Cup excitement was added to another unbeaten month in the league as a Simon Davey equaliser at Roker Park earned the Blues a replay against the mighty Sunderland for the second season in succession.
12,201 United fans watched that replay, but the Black Cats progressed courtesy of a 3-1 win, with Dean Walling getting our goal.
The juggernaut that had been carving its way through Division Three hit somewhat of a relative sticky patch, with draws against Preston, Rochdale and Fulham an indication that teams were going to adopt a much more cautious approach.
But a comfortable 2-0 away win over Barnet eased the tension and maintained United’s deserved placing at the top of the table.
