94/95 - A first ever visit to Wembley is booked

March 1995, another exemplary month

22 June 2020

United’s three-goal first-leg lead over Rochdale was almost wiped out within the first half hour at Spotland as Dale exploded out of the blocks from the very first whistle.

Veteran Derek Mountfield eased tensions when he scored just before the break, taking the cushion back up to two goals, and there was relief all round as the Cumbrians battled their way through a tricky tie to secure their first ever visit to Wembley.

Three league wins from four through the month of March showed that the cup run hadn’t become a distraction, and it was another impressive unbeaten four weeks of football which kept spirits high and the romp towards glory in full flow.
