RAF 100: RAF Spadeadam kicks off their RAF100 celebrations

RAF Spadeadam will 'kick off' their RAF 100 Celebrations by sponsoring a football match between Carlisle United and Lincoln City

2 April 2018

This afternoon, to mark the beginning of the Royal Air Force’s Centenary year, Royal Air Force Spadeadam will be sponsoring the Match Ball for the Carlisle United v Lincoln City game at Brunton Park.

Prior to kick off at 3pm, Royal Air Force Spadeadam personnel will present the ball to the match referee.

The sponsorship reaffirms the ongoing links the Royal Air Force holds with the city’s of Carlisle and Lincoln.

The event is just one of many activities taking place across the region to celebrate the Formation of the Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918.

Over 70 Town and Parish Councils, across the region, are supporting the Royal Air Force Centenary Year, with flower displays in Royal Air Force colours, along with various other activities.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier, Chief of the Air Staff, RAF, said: "In our 100th year we want to showcase the vital role the RAF continues to play in defending the British people and protecting our nation’s interests.

"Launched on April 1, the celebrations are a fitting recognition and thank you to the exceptional dedication, spirit and achievements of our men and women.

"They also encourage us to look to the future: the greatest legacy of RAF100 will be its ability to inspire a whole new generation so that together we can help shape our next century."
