MANAGER: All of our attention is on Barnet

Manager Keith Curle ahead of the Barnet game

Manager Keith Curle spoke to us about the Saturday away game at Barnet at his Thursday afternoon press conference.

“We have two games in four days but all of our attention is on Barnet at the moment,” he insisted. “We haven't thought about the Yeovil game yet, other than in our preparation as a coaching staff. We'll pick a team for the Barnet game then we will look at Tuesday after that.

“We saw earlier in the season that Barnet are a good side. They want to try and play but they’re not scared of going forward early. If they sense a weakness they will keep knocking at your door.

“That’s where you have to keep the ball away from them and cause them some problems by getting into good areas. We probably saw the best and the worst of them when they last played us, but you can guarantee that a Martin Allen team will try something else if what they’ve set out to do isn’t working.”

“As I say, they impressed when they came up here and it really was a case of goals changing games. When they were 2-0 down I think they wanted to get off the pitch as quickly as possible. They then scored a couple of goals in a short period of time and they had a good foothold in the game where they looked a threat.

“We know we can score goals against them but we also know we have to respect the attributes they have. I think there’ll be goals in the game and it’ll be interesting to see which way it goes. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if there were over four goals in this game in whichever permutation you want to suggest.

“It’s another where the conditions will have to be managed. It’s a tight ground, with low stands, and I have no doubt it will be cold. We’ll have to make sure we have the answers when they come knocking at our door.

“We’re still in good position in the league, with games in hand, and it’s seen as a challenge for the players to make sure they use those extra games to pick up points. We wanted to be around the play-offs just after Christmas and that’s where we are. Going to place like Barnet to try to build on that is the minimum we can expect. I’m sure the players will be competitive and they will try to get us the result we want.”
