Shaun Miller on the Luton and Yeovil games
We spoke to striker Shaun Miller ahead of training on Tuesday morning to get his thoughts on the 1-1 draw at Luton on Saturday.“Everyone was disappointed to go out of the cup competitions so it was important for us to get a positive result on Saturday,” he said. “I think with the way the game went, with us having ten men towards the end, meant it was certainly a good point.
“We got off to a great start and we were a bit annoyed that we conceded so soon after we’d scored. We went there with a good game plan and we tried to win the game. We very nearly snuck it in the last few seconds, which would have been fantastic. It was a good point against a decent team who will be up there.
“It was a bit of a stop-start game, players were going down and we had a few injuries, as well as the sending off. It was a very competitive game which is what you’d expect when you go somewhere like that. We went there to win and we very nearly did."
One of the free kicks not given came when the nippy forward appeared to be felled on the edge of the area as he went clean through having reacted first to a poor back pass.
“I read a header back and felt like I got to the ball first, then I was fouled," he told us. "I thought it was as blatant as they come but nothing was given. Raynesy [Michael Raynes] obviously got sent off but there were a few on Charlie [Wyke], one on Joycey [Luke Joyce] and one on Michael Raynes himself.
"Sometimes you can’t understand the decisions but you’ve just got to accept it. We did well in the end with all the added time to keep it to 1-1.
“We battled for the last ten minutes of the game with ten men, which we did well with, and then the board went up with nine minutes of added time. That always gives the home fans a lift. We stood up well and we had a great passage of play down the right where we very nearly nicked it. The lads dug in, showed the character and got a great point."
Speaking about his part in the early goal, he said: "I’m definitely claiming the assist for Jason Kennedy’s goal. It was one of those where I potentially should have gone back across the keeper with the header, but I was pleased when he spilled it. That’s what Jason does, he’s always there to tap them in from half a yard or so.
“I’ve been pleased to get a couple of goals in the last few weeks. It was good to get one last Tuesday night and it would have been nice to add another on Saturday, I was just pleased Jason was there to put it in."
Looking ahead to the return to Brunton Park for the Yeovil game on Saturday, he said: “We’re all looking forward to that and we want to kick on now. It would be great to pick up three points to go into Christmas.
"We’re guaranteed to be in the top three when Christmas comes around and if someone had offered us that at the start of the season we'd have taken it.
“We want to keep increasing the gap to fourth and get back to the top of the table. The games will come thick and fast over Christmas, starting with Saturday, so we want to get the three points and hopefully go on another run.”
