Brunton Park floodlight improvements under way
The refurbishment project on the Brunton Park floodlights started in earnest this week with eighteen 2000 watt lights fitted to one of the two existing lighting columns as the club continues the upgrade of the system to meet Football League lux level requirements.
Managing director John Nixon said: “This is the first phase of the upgrade and we expect to have all of the lamps on the north column replaced by Saturday.
“The plan thereafter is to have the Warwick Road End column completed in time for the evening fixture against Burton on 21 October. It is anticipated this will give us lux readings of over 500, which is above the required level, in comparison to the reading of just below 400 we were getting prior to work starting earlier in the week.”
“We are grateful to Sunderland Football Club for the help they have given us with our upgrade,” he continued. “They changed their system recently and we were able to get some of their old lamps at fairly short notice. This has reduced the cost of the upgrade programme from £40,000 to just over £25,000.
“We also need to thank the Carlisle United Supporters’ Groups because they are now looking at methods, including a raffle, to raise funds to help cover the costs of the floodlight project.”
