Former-Hull, Swindon and Doncaster forward set to join the Blues
Carlisle United have today agreed terms on a two-year deal with striker Billy Paynter which will keep him at Brunton Park until the summer of 2016.
Paynter, 29, started his career at Port Vale and made over 150 appearances for the Valiants, in a six year stay, before moving to Hull City in 2006. Short spells with Southend and Bradford followed until a move to Swindon Town really announced his arrival on the scene when he bagged 51 goals in 135 appearances.
Two year deals with Leeds United and Doncaster Rovers followed, which included loans with Brighton and Sheffield United, until he was released from contract at the Keepmoat Stadium at the end of last season.
"We're absolutely delighted that we've agreed terms with Billy," manager Graham Kavanagh said.
"There were other clubs interested but we've talked to him and we've also heard all of the right things about where he wants to go.
"He's another player with experience and quality and we think he will be a great addition as we look to push on next season."
