Another good test for the lads
United’s Youth team travelled across country to face Chesterfield in their second pre-season friendly and another very competitive fixture gave the lads more valuable pitch time in what was a keenly fought affair.
Jason Blackburn and Cuan Hurley bagged the Carlisle goals but two late strikes from the young Spireites secured the hosts a narrow 3-2 victory.
“It was an extremely good test for us,” academy manager Alan Moore said. “It’s about building things up so that the lads can last 90 minutes and we’re getting there with that now.
“Chesterfield had a few young pro’s involved so they were slightly stronger than us. That showed as our legs started to tire in the last few minutes, and that’s when they go their goals.
“The really pleasing thing is that we are exactly where we need to be at this moment in time. We’ve had another good game against decent opposition and we’ve come through it with no injuries.
“It’s all very positive and it’s a case of continuing to build things up from here.”
