The manager ahead of the weekend friendly
Manager Graham Kavanagh spoke to us ahead of the trip to face Barrow on Saturday.
“This is another one for us to look forward to,” he said. “It’s another local club and they’ll give us a tough test and a chance to get more pitch time.
“They’ve obviously had a big investment recently and the person who has done that seems very passionate about putting Barrow on the map. Darren [Edmondson] has recruited quite a few ex-league players, including a few who used to play for us, and it looks like they’re going to have a right go at it this season.”
“As far as the game goes, they’re another local club we need to look after and support in my opinion,” he told us. “I hope it’s another good game to watch and we’ll be looking for another positive performance from the lads.
“We’ve seen some good things as we build up through pre-season so far and you can see that the players are enjoying themselves. Hopefully that will continue and we’ll start to build up a bit of momentum.
“Danny Kearns will definitely play and we’re looking to get game time for Troy [Archibald-Henville] as well at some point. I’m conscious that we’re doing double sessions with him at the moment and there’s a lot of position specific and strength work being done. We don’t want to get in the way of that, with what he needs to do with his knees, but at the same time we do want him to be playing. Like I say, we do know he needs game time and we’ll decide ahead of the game whether we do that against Barrow or on Tuesday.”
“Barrow are another club who always treat us well and we’ve built up a good relationship with Darren over the years,” he said. “Things start to pick up pace at this stage of pre-season and this game is part of that. It should be a good day and we hope as many people as possible get along to watch it.”
