Update on defender Danny Butterfield
Carlisle United Football Club can confirm that defender Danny Butterfield has left the club by mutual consent this weekend.
Butterfield, 33, teamed up with the Cumbrians on non-contract terms ahead of the 1-1 draw at Colchester ten days ago and made an immediate impact as he brought his knowledge and experience into the group.
“Danny is a fantastic lad who came into the squad when we needed experienced heads to help to steady the ship,” manager Greg Abbott said.
"He's going to work with the people he knows really well down in Southampton for the next few weeks and it's a situation we will keep an eye on.
"He settled quickly and fitted in really well, and he played his part on Saturday when he came into the dressing room at Brentford to see the lads and to give them his encouragement. That speaks volumes about where he is at the moment and about what he thinks of us as a club.
"Like I say, we like him and he likes us. It's one where we will definitely keep in touch."
