United left themselves a lot to do despite a first half goal from Danny Hodgson as they went into the break trailing by 3-1.
Jason Blackburn grabbed a second from a much better second half performance but it wasn't quite enough to get a result.
"We gave away some really poor goals and left ourselves with a mountain to climb but we come away very pleased with a spirited second half display," Dave Wilkes said.
