Livesey confirms one-year deal
Defender Danny Livesey confirmed today that he will be wearing the blue of Carlisle United for at least a further twelve months as he extends his stay at the club into a ninth full year.
Livesey, 28, joined United on Christmas Eve in 2004, on a month-long loan spell from Bolton Wanderers, and made his move a permanent one during the following January transfer window.
He has since made over 300 appearances for the Blues and has a string of vital goals chalked up against his name – few will ever forget the pressure filled spot kick at the end of the Conference play-off semi-final against Aldershot which ultimately took the Cumbrians to a final appearance at the Britannia Stadium against Stevenage.
“We think Danny has played really well and we feel he has more than earned the activation of the clause in his contract,” manager Greg Abbott said.
“He’s a strong, solid and determined character and he’s another who loves the club. He’s played the number of games he has for us because of the way he does things, professionally and without fuss.
“Danny is one of our experienced heads now and he’ll have a big part to play in the dressing room with what we want to do next season.
“We’re delighted that he’s still with us and we’re looking forward to working with him again next season.”
Livesey made his debut with Bolton aged just 17 and had loan spells with Rochdale, Notts County and Blackpool as he cut his teeth in the game.
The popular centre half has seen just about everything with the club, including promotion back into the Football League and the subsequent step-up to take our place in League One just twelve months later.
"It's a great place to be and I'm more than happy that I'll be with the club again next season," Livesey said.
"Nobody at the club was happy with the way last season went and we're all determined to put that right. I wasn't happy with the number of goals we conceded and that's something I want to make sure never happens again.
"I've had some good years here and I'm looking forward to more of the same."
