Ten-man United went down 3-2 despite taking an early lead through Tom White's first strike of the season at Rochdale on Saturday morning.
Dale used their advantage after the break, having equalised on the stroke of half time from the spot as part of the controversial red card incident, and a late Danny Hodgson penalty wasn't quite enough to earn the young Cumbrians what would have been a deserved point.
"The lads worked hard in the second half so that's something we can take from the game," youth boss Davie Irons said. "The late goal was just about what we deserved but we were up against it when we had a man sent off.
"It's one we'll look at and talk about on Monday but, as I say, the good thing is that the lads kept working for each other."
