Donaldson to team up with Blues

Free agent Ryan Donaldson is set to spend the latter part of this week training with Carlisle United as he continues to search for a new base following his release from Newcastle United in the summer.

Striker Donaldson came through the youth ranks with the Magpies and has enjoyed loan spells with Tranmere and Hartlepool during his time in the north east.

He first teamed up with United for their friendly victory against Durham City last week and is scheduled to join the squad for training for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week.

Manager Greg Abbott said: "He did well in the first half at Durham and we spoke to him then about coming back to join us.

"We've arranged for him to come along for the second part of this week and he should be involved at some stage in the game on Friday night. He literally joined us just before the warm-up last Tuesday so this will give him a chance to spend a bit of time with us and then we can make a decision from there."
