Gavin Skelton returned to Carlisle United as First Team Coach in June 2025, re-joining the club after a spell with Hartlepool United and bringing extensive coaching experience to the first-team set-up.

Skelton began his playing career with Carlisle United before representing clubs including Workington, Gretna, Kilmarnock, Hamilton Academical, Barrow and Queen of the South.

He moved into coaching after retiring from playing, managing Workington and Queen of the South before returning to the Blues, where he worked as an Academy coach and later Assistant Manager. He also took charge of the first-team on a caretaker basis on a couple of occasions.

Skelton joined Hartlepool United in November 2024 as a first-team coach before returning to Brunton Park the following summer.

He now forms part of Rob Elliot’s first-team coaching staff, working alongside Assistant Head Coach Louis Storey.
