STEPHEN WEARNE ON SUTTON UNITED DEFEAT

/

Following yesterday's defeat on the road at the VBS Community Stadium, we spoke to Stephen Wearne.

Speaking to CUTV, Wearne said: "[It's] Disappointing, frustrating. I think not just at the result but the fact that we've set standards of ourselves and we didn't quite hit that today, or nowhere near any of that.

"I think that's the main frustrating thing. But we've got another game Wednesday so we've got to learn from it quick, got to move on and make sure we're better.

"We had chances, it just wasn't falling for us really, yeah, it goes like that sometimes. We trust each other, we believe in each other, we've got good players that can create a lot of chances, as you've seen in previous weeks.

"We've had those days today where it didn't quite go for us."

Wearne started the game out on the right, after previously slotting in behind the striker this season, on that switch of position, he stated: "I just want to be out on the pitch. As long as I can be on the pitch and leave everything out there, then happy days.

"I want to create more, score more goals, but the more I'm on the pitch, the more minutes I get, the more I back myself to do that. Pleased with 90 minutes today, it was my first 90 minutes in a long time, but I just want to get the win next week and hopefully we can move on quickly.

"First-half, I don't think we were too bad. Second-half, we probably played into their hands a little bit. But first-half, we were probably a better team and the gaffer just said, keep doing what you're doing, play how we want to play, don't get sucked into what they want, which unfortunately we did. That's not taking anything away from them, I think they probably dealt with us well. But yeah, disappointing.

"You come to places like this, it can be tough. You're always going to create scrappy chances, the way they try to play. You've seen that with the first and second goal as well.

"We had a few [chances] towards the end, the last five, ten minutes, but you can't leave it to push on and try and get a goal.

"Like I said, we're really disappointed. I had a couple of good chances towards the end myself. Disappointed, but we've got to learn from it and move on quickly."

Looking ahead to Wednesday night's trip to Brackley Town, Stephen said: "Games come really quickly and we've got to make sure we're at our best for every single one. We'll go to Wednesday full of confidence. We're going to get loads of games like today where we can't exactly play the way we want to play, but we've got to find a way to win.

"We will go to Brackley on Wednesday full of confidence, full of belief and hopefully put it right.

"We are a group who really want to win. We want to be competitive and have shown that in the first five games.

"Like I said, we're going to get games like today, but yeah, we just want to put it right and give the fans something to cheer for."

Finally, onthe travelling support, Wearne said: "Obviously it's incredible support coming down here, [they] follow everywhere, so just a big thank you. And yeah, stick with us because I'm sure we'll get it right."
