MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS AT BP

Mental Health Awareness Week takes place from 12 May to 18 May, with this year's theme being 'community'.

Carlisle United’s EDI Lead has arranged for guest speakers from:

  • Andys Man Club
  • Every Life Matters
  • Carlisle Mencap
  • Samaritans 
  • SMMILES (The Well Communities) project 

Everyone is invited to the Study Centre at Brunton Park to hear the talks from 12pm to 1pm, with representatives from the organisations available in the Northern Competitions Fan Zone from 1pm to 2:30pm

 Information regarding each organisation is as follows:

Andy's Man Club - A men's support group that provides a safe and non-judgmental space for men aged 18 and over to talk about their struggles and challenges. Their goal is to eliminate the stigma around mental health and male suicide, offering a peer-to-peer environment where men can feel comfortable sharing their experiences.

Every Life Matters - Aim to create suicide-safer communities through training, campaigning, resources and support to those bereaved and impacted by suicide.

Mencap - Supports individuals with learning disabilities, their families, and carers while working to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities by providing information, advice, and support services and by campaigning for changes in laws and services.

Samaritans - Provides 24/7 confidential emotional support to individuals experiencing distress or despair, offering a listening ear and support without judgment.

SMMILES (The Well Communities) - For people experiencing mental health illness and co-existing substance abuse, supporting those facing significant challenges in their daily lives due to co-existing conditions.

Carlisle United Community Sports Trust runs Mental Health Football sessions created to help adults experiencing mental health issues through small-sided football matches allowing them to exercise and socialise building their self-esteem in a friendly team environment.

CUFC CST will also be organising a tea and talk session for all staff on Friday 16 May as part of this year’s campaign.
