We spoke to Jack Ellis, after the club exercised the clause in his contract, keeping him at Brunton Park for the duration of the 2025/26 season.
Speaking to CUTV, Jack said: “I’m really happy. Obviously it was a disappointing season as a whole last year, but I'm looking forward to being here next year and trying to put it right.”
“It's been good to be playing a lot of games, so hopefully I can contribute next year to bouncing straight back up.
“Obviously, it's the highs and lows of football, you learn all the time and you're in difficult situations. But I've definitely learnt a lot and I'm looking forward to getting going next year.”
Jack played numerous positions for United last season, he spoke about that versatility, saying: “Obviously as a footballer, you just want to play games, so if you get asked to play in a different positions, you've just got to get on with it and just try and enjoy it in every moment.
“I just tried to learn the positions I was playing in and enjoyed it.”
We asked Jack what he felt was his best position, to which he responded: “I don't know, obviously it's a tough one to answer really. I think some games you might enjoy a game in a certain position, the next you might enjoy it even more in another position.
“So it's a tough question, but hopefully I'll cement a position next year.”
Jack started the final six games of the season, playing 90 minutes in four of those, he spoke on that run, explaining: “I felt like I was starting to feel a lot fitter. Obviously I didn't start too many games just before it, so I think the first couple of games I did tire towards the end, but towards the end of the season I did start to feel fully fit and I felt good.”
Jack notched his first goal for the Blues' first team back on New Year's Day against Crewe Alexandra.
“It was really nice. It's probably been a long time coming, but yeah, it was a great feeling and hopefully I can get a couple more next year.
“I had a couple of family members there and they were all buzzing. So yeah, it was really nice to have them in there as well.”
Jack finished the season well, and contributed three assists in the final six matches. Something he is keen to continue working on, saying: “I think nowadays you get judged on a lot of stats, so it's nice to get a couple of them towards the end of the season.
“Obviously there were some big games and you just want to try and contribute as much as possible and I just tried to do that really.”
Talking on the disappointment of last season, and the feeling around the dressing room following the conclusion of the campaign. Ellis said: "It was devastating, obviously.
“It's just such a big disappointment and I think as players we've got to take 100% of the blame.
“We just didn't perform well enough over the games throughout the season, but all we've got to focus on now is coming back strong for pre-season, having a good start to the season and making sure we bounce back up.”
On his aims for next season, the defender said: “Just to try and play as many games as possible, try and contribute to goals as well.
“I think you've just got to focus on the team as well and we have to bounce back next year.”
Finally, Jack ended with a message for United's fans, saying: “Hopefully it's going to be a very good season next year. Thank you very much for your support.”
