Following his match-winning goal, we spoke to Regan Linney after Carlisle United’s 1-0 victory at Truro City,
Speaking to CUTV, he reflected on a tough away test, securing third place and the importance of the travelling support.
Here is everything we learnt:
1. A tough trip, job done
“It was a tough game with the conditions and the travelling, but we’ve managed to get the win and secure that third spot, so we’re really happy.”
2. Handling the long journey
“It’s a long trip, but you’ve just got to deal with it. In this league, there are a lot of long journeys, so we travelled well and got the result.”
3. Honest assessment
“I think we were a bit off it today, to be honest. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but at this stage of the season it’s all about getting the result.”
4. Taking the decisive moment
“I saw Dave (Ajiboye) on the ball and made the run, got into the box one-v-one, chopped inside and created a bit of space. It’s gone in off the post, and I was buzzing.”
5. Made to work for it
“It’s a tough place to come, and they made us work for it towards the end, like they have against a lot of the top sides.”
6. Securing third place
“We’re delighted to get that third spot wrapped up, and now we can focus on the play-offs.”
7. Celebrating with the fans
“The fans are special. They’ve come out in numbers again, and I’m always buzzing to celebrate in front of them.”
8. Appreciation for the support
“We thank every single one of them for travelling, home and away. It means a lot to us.”
9. Eyes on the play-offs
“The aim was to win the league, and we haven’t managed that, but we’ve got a home semi-final now, which is massive.”
10. A big opportunity at home
“Hopefully we can get as many fans in as possible at Brunton Park, get right behind us and hopefully we can get the win.”
