After a composed performance in a 3-0 win against Yeovil Town, we spoke to Carlisle United right-back Jack Ellis.
Speaking to CUTV, Ellis discussed backing up recent results, his two assists, patience, positional challenges and the focus heading into a demanding week of fixtures.
Here is everything we learnt:
1. A statement performance
“A really good performance. I thought we controlled the game really well. We spoke before how massive it was for us to back up the last two results against two top sides, and yeah, we've done that.”
2. Backing up a big week
“I think if you look at the table, we know we've got points to catch if we're going to go for that number one space, so it's important we've just got to go out and try and win every single game now.”
3. Two assists and a strong return
“I wanted to come back in the team and try and help the team out and just try and perform as well as possible. It's been a bit difficult changing positions quite often, so if we can get a settled run now, it'd be good for me to get more consistent performances.”
4. Team first, always
“It's nice, it's a nice bonus (Player of the Match Award), but I know it's cliché, but it's the most important thing, getting the three points.”
5. Patience paying off
“Sometimes it's tough when you're out of the team, but we've had such a good season so far, and we've got some very good players this year. When you're out of the team, it's tough to get back in, so when you're in, you've just got to take your opportunity and just try and perform well.”
6. Spreading the goals around
“Luke's (Armstrong) been massive for us and he works his socks off every single game, and I'm pleased he's scoring goals and helping us.”
7. Control and game management
“I know it might look at times like the other teams having more possession in the second half, but when you're down by that scoreline, everyone wants to get on the ball, and it's a lot easier to play.
"I think the last two games we've dealt with the pressure really well, and we've just got to keep moving on to the next one.”
