After Carlisle United’s 2-2 draw away at Morecambe FC, we spoke to David Ajiboye.
Speaking after the game, Ajiboye discussed his disappointment at the result, his impact on both goals and the need for greater composure in key moments.
Here is everything we learnt:
1. Frustration at the result
“Disappointed.
“I think we should have won the game, and it’s a bit like the other day, we had a lot of chances and we need to be taking them.
“Hopefully, next game we just put them away.”
2. Letting the lead slip
“It’s frustrating.
“I think we limited them to not a lot, but the own goal was disappointing.
“Even after that, we had chances to put the game to bed and just couldn’t quite get it there.”
3. Adjusting after losing a key player
“I think it showed for 10 minutes after Gilly (Alex Gilliead) came off, we were a bit all over the place.
“But after half-time we settled down, and the second half was much better.”
4. Personal impact on the game
“A few games without scoring or assisting.
“But I feel like I’ve still been impacting games, so I’m happy to get a goal and assist today.”
5. Creating the equaliser
“We’ve been saying to pick the right moments and passes.
“It wasn’t on for me to go myself, and I saw the options there.
“Reegs (Regan Linney) took it and did what he’s been doing all season.”
6. Taking his goal opportunity
“We spoke about it in the first half [with Gabe].
“He said if he gets the chance, he’ll play it, and he’s done that.
“It wasn’t quite on a plate, I still had work to do, but it was a brilliant ball.”
7. Celebrating with the fans
“It was good.
“Seeing all the fans there cheering and singing my name was great.
“Just disappointed we couldn’t hold on for the win for them.”
8. Need for composure late on
“Just a bit of calmness.
“We didn’t quite have that at the end.
“The keeper made a good save aswell but we had chances to win it.”
9.Taking positives forward
“We’ve just got to keep going and doing the same things.
“We’re creating good chances, and eventually they’ll turn into more goals.”
10. Focus on finishing the job
“We want to wrap up that third place as soon as we can.
“We’ve got a few games left, and we’re confident we’ll do it.
“And again, brilliant support from the fans all season, especially away from home.”
