Ahead of our clash against Sutton United in the Enterprise National League, we spoke to Archie Davies.
Reflecting on his second season at Brunton Park, Davies discussed the challenges he’s faced, the team’s progress this year and the collective drive to finish the campaign strongly.
Here is everything we learnt:
1. A character-building journey
“It’s been mixed, to be honest.
“There’s been ups and downs over the last two years.
“But it’s definitely been character building and I’ve learnt a lot about myself.”
2. Overcoming setbacks
“Last season was disrupted with injuries.
“And this year I’ve had spells out of the team.
“But those experiences help you grow.”
3. A more positive environment
“The atmosphere around the place has been much better.
“You can feel that positivity on matchdays.
“That gives everyone a boost.”
4. Clear improvement in performance
“We’ve scored more goals and been solid defensively.
“The quality has definitely improved this season.
“That’s why we’re doing well.”
5. Strength in unity
“The group is really tight.
“You know someone’s always got your back.
“That togetherness gives you extra in games.”
6. Managing the mental side
“It’s important to switch off away from football.
“You can’t overthink everything.
“Having that balance really helps.”
7. Dealing with relentless competition
“You feel like you have to win every game.
“The teams at the top have been so consistent.
“Most seasons, our points would be enough to win the league.”
8. Healthy competition for places
“There’s good competition in the squad.
“But we all get along and push each other.
“It helps raise standards.”
9. Focus on a strong finish
“It’s the business end of the season now.
“We want to finish as strong as possible.
“And take momentum into the playoffs.”
10. Backed by strong support
“The fans have been unbelievable all season.
“They’ve travelled everywhere to support us.
“There’s still a lot to play for and we’ll need them.”
