Dylan McGeouch on defeat at Shrewsbury

18 March 2024

Dylan McGeouch joined us following the final whistle in Shrewsbury.

Speaking on the game, he said: “Obviously disappointed, I thought the second-half we were a lot better.“I think we passed the ball a lot better and and got into their half more.“I think key moments in the game went against us, whether that’s defending or attacking.“The big moments went for them.”The biggest chance of the first-half fell to Sam Lavelle seconds before the break.“He’s took a good touch and probably had a bit too much time to think about it, he goes one side and the ‘keeper reads it, but it was a big chance.“We obviously tweaked the shape a little bit to help us get up the pitch, I think the first-half, they were jumping on us in the midfield and kind of nicking things, so we changed the shape and that helped us.“Once we done that, we kind of got a foothold in the game and were passing it about.“We looked a lot more threatening going forward, we just couldn’t get the goal.”Speaking on United’s improvements in the second-half, the midfielder added: “It was a lot more enjoyable to play in.“We played most of the game in their half I would say, but in the first-half we probably played too much in ours, so that was pleasing to know that we obviously seen that and made adjustments.“It’s just getting that end product and finishing attacks off.“We just need to be a little more careful with the final pass or shot.”The Blues were backed by 559 supporters in Shropshire in what was another strong away following.“They’re brilliant, they’ve been like that all season to be fair.“They’ve stuck with us and they can see what we’re putting into the games, the efforts there.“Obviously we’d like to get a few more wins before the end of the season, it’s the least they deserve.“They’ll stick by us the whole season, that’s never been a question about them fans”Assessing his form personally since returning to the side, Dylan said: “It’s been nice, obviously it was a frustrating time to be out the squad and stuff, but I just kept myself right, kept myself training away.“To be fair to the manager, he brought it up with the lads about keeping professional and keeping myself right and the chances came to get back into the squad.“I’ve enjoyed it, results aside, nobody likes losing games.“As a personal view, it’s nice to be back out there playing.“I think there's a lot more to come from myself, but hopefully that comes by playing more games.”Next up is a home clash with Stevenage in our ‘One Carlisle One Community’ fixture at Brunton Park.“Obviously at home, we’ll be expecting a good crowd as always.“We’ve just got to concentrate on the next game.“This one, I think we let it get away from us a little bit, we probably should’ve done more and got at least a draw out the game.“We go next week to build on that second-half and hopefully in the final third we can be a little bit more clinical.”
