PREVIEW: Peterborough

Carlisle United v Peterborough United, Tuesday 3 October, kick off 7.45pm

It's been almost nine years since we went to Peterborough in the FA Cup - Posh won that one 2-1 (Derek Asamoah scored our goal, Christian Burgess scored both of theirs) and nine-and-a-half years since we met in the league (Posh won that one 4-1).

Our opponents come into this game off the back of a 2-0 home win over Bristol Rovers on Saturday. Archie Collins notched his first ever goal for the club ahead of the break, and David Ajiboye did exactly the same in the second period.

They bowed out of the Carabao Cup at the third-round stage last Tuesday, but Mansfield needed penalties to get the job done. The 90 minutes ended at 2-2, with Jonson Clarke-Harris netting both for the away team. Clarke-Harris went from hero to villain when he missed his spot kick, as did Ronnie Edwards, and that set it up for Davis Keillor-Dunn to bag the decisive penalty.

The posh came out of the blocks in confident mood with three straight league wins at the start of the season, but that was followed by three straight defeats, such is the nature of this unpredictable League One level.

Two draws and a win ahead of the Bristol Rovers game steadied the ship again, and they are now hovering inside the play-off places heading into the third month of the season.

We have to go with the very dangerous Jonson Clarke-Harris.

He has six strikes from 11 games to date, and is much more than just a scorer of goals.

He was purchased for a reported fee in excess of £1m back in 2020 and has enjoyed a run of 81 goals in 158 appearances in all competitions so far.

The Jamaican striker of a real handful on his day.

United won the December 2013 home fixture that season thanks to two late goals from David Amoo. Lee Tomlin had put ten-man Peterbporough ahead with a stunning free kick.
