New arrival Danny Butterworth made his first appearance for the Fruit Salads on Tuesday and he slotted in straight away as he led the line alongside Joe Garner through the first hour of the Livingston friendly.
“I thought he did really well,” manager Paul Simpson said. “I thought he showed some really good touches, he was lively and he wanted to be on the ball.
“It’s still early for him and I was a little bit concerned whether or not we’d get 60 minutes out of him. I thought we’d maybe take him off after 45 minutes, but he kept going and that will do him the world of good.
“He’s done all of the fitness stuff on his own, he’s covered that type of work, but he just now needs that football stuff. It’s different when you’re in a group and you’ve got the unpredictability of whoever you’re up against.
“There’s the running with the ball and the changing of direction that’s not all structured, so I’m sure he’ll benefit.
“He’ll be tired, but there are enough recovery periods built in, so hopefully he’ll be fine come the weekend.”
