Those who braved the conditions to get to the Workington friendly on Saturday afternoon will have spotted that first-year pro Kai Nugent is currently wearing a protective boot after rolling his ankle in the 7-0 away victory at Gretna on Tuesday night.
“It’s not good news, but it’s not as bad as we first feared,” assistant gaffer Gav Skelton told us. “It’s going to be a few weeks, possibly five or six, and that’s disappointing because he’s a young pro and he’s full of enthusiasm.
“He was gutted when he rolled his ankle a little bit but hopefully it will just be a matter of weeks, and not longer term.
“We’ll have to wait and see. Hopefully he’s a quick healer, he’s a young boy. Kai will push himself. It’s disappointing for him, but we’re not over concerned about it being longer term.”
And he also confirmed that the half-time substitution of Owen Moxon on saturday afternoon was more of a precautionary measure.
"He felt something but hopefully it’s nothing," he said. "There’s no point taking any risks and he got 45 minutes work."
