Assistant boss Gav Skelton was on press duties after the Hartlepool game last night and it was inevitable that the discussion with him would head towards the transfer window, with the manager having left the technical area at full-time to head immediately to his office with 90 minutes of the summer window left to go.
“Transfers windows, they’re good and bad,” he said. “It’s funny, every club’s the same, it gets to that last day and everyone starts trying to do a bit of wheeling and dealing.
“It’s quite draining at times but you love it as well. It’s part of the fun. With the two we’ve done so far, Jordan Gibson and Kelvin Mellor, they add to the group.
“Them coming keeps people on their toes, people are looking do they play in my position, it ups everyone’s game, they’ll be good additions.”
“Kelvin trained with us this afternoon,” he added. “He’s an experienced player, he’s been promoted twice, he’s played 300 league games at some big clubs. I think he’ll be a good asset to us – good size, good athlete.
“He’s a fit lad and you can feel that he’s comfortable with who he is when you speak to him and see him in training, and with how he conducts himself. It’s only one session but you can tell.
“Jordan’s an exciting player, he went to Ireland, and anyone who’s seen his clips and stats should be excited by him. He trained with us as well and he showed glimpses. He’ll train more with us and get up to the pace of things.
“I know he’s been playing in Ireland but it’s a different tempo. It should be exciting and give us something different than what we’ve got.
“He’ll be a handful. He’s lively, he’s got good ability and can give us something different, take people on, get crosses in and hopefully score goals as well.”
