MANAGER: We've got to be more ruthless

22 August 2021

“Tristan has been brilliant since he came in,” manager Chris Beech said. “He works extremely hard and he’s got his reward.

“He would probably say that he could have had a couple more, but he’s getting into good areas and he helps his team mates with the way he works across the back line.

“He’ll be pleased he scored because he spent a bit of time on loan with Orient. What we need to try to do is serve that last third area with more quality. We’re on the right lines, we’re creating chances, and we just need to keep working very hard.

“For all of the lads, the distances they’ve covered in the games so far are absolutely commendable. Again, I’ve really enjoyed another game but very frustrated we didn’t get the three points to reward everybody.”

What the result did mean was that the Cumbrians are now just one of five in the division to remain unbeaten.

“I just want to win and treat each game as an individual opportunity,” he told us. “This was another opportunity, we didn’t get the win, but there’s no need to over analyse it.

“It was fast, it was quick, it had energy, it had quality. Tristan’s penalty is still on its way, it’s probably in Preston now, he hit it that hard.

“We didn’t quite get the other opportunities we would have liked and we have to work on those elements. We want to win, but we didn’t.

“You don’t coach the lads to not play strong. You want them playing fast, attacking football and expressing themselves. As we’ve said before, we want more goals but if they don’t come it becomes a thing you can look at.

“If we’d got the second goal they’d have swam away, but they got their equaliser and I’m gutted we didn’t get the goal our response to that deserved to see.”
