Striker commits to United

19 May 2020

Carlisle United Football Club are delighted to announce that forward Lewis Alessandra has agreed a one-year deal with the club (with an option) which, once signed, will keep him at the club until at least the summer of 2021.

Alessandra, 31 last month, initially joined the Blues on a short-term deal during the January 2020 transfer window and scored one goal in his 10 appearances.

United boss Chris Beech said: “I feel really pleased and energised now that we have this first deal over the line.

“He’s a person I know about and I’m looking forward to working with him again next season.

“This is a player that brings professionalism and experience to the changing room, and his attacking prowess and know-how on the pitch makes him a fantastic lad to have around.

“He’s fit and full of running and he’s a real team player. I think this is good business for him and us, particularly in the current climate, because this won’t be an easy summer for a lot of players and clubs.

“We’re delighted that he’s committed his future to us.”

The versatile front-man was most recently with local rivals Morecambe where he bagged five goals in his 26 appearances through the first half of the 2019/20 season.

He started his career as a youngster with Oldham where he secured his first professional contract. He scored eight goals in 76 appearances for the Latics before moving to Morecambe for his first spell with the Shrimps.

Two years by the seaside preceded a switch to Plymouth, where he made over 100 appearances for the Pilgrims, netting 25 goals along the way.

Spells with Rochdale, York (loan), Hartlepool and Notts County followed, where he continued to find the back of the net, before he returned to Morecambe on a half-season deal in July 2019.

This deal remains subject to the completion and filing of all paperwork.
