It was all systems go with the new digital scoreboard at the Cambridge home game on Saturday with video footage and still messages combined with the all-important match clock and score displayed on the screen mounted at the Waterworks End of the ground.
Video reels showing United’s goals rolled from 1.30pm on the day, with fans able to see the scoreboard section up and running and ready to go for the big kick off as they came into the ground.
Sponsor messages scrolled throughout the non-game sections of the afternoon, and the good news is that even more functionality is to come now the screen is up and running.
Amy Nixon from the club’s media team said: “We spent much of the latter part of last week installing the software and creating the content, and we’ve learned a lot about the capabilities of the screen over the last few days, particularly what it can do on a match day.
“Some of the graphics worked extremely well, which was pleasing, and even more importantly we saw areas we could make improvements with, such as the team graphics and colours used on certain tiles.
“Going forward we are looking to get software which will allow much more in-game interaction, such as visuals for the teams and animations for substitutions, bookings and goals.
"The screen developers are working on that as we speak, and we hope to have it in place sooner rather than later.”
