LFE’s Goal of the Month competition returns for the final time during the 2018-19 campaign, showcasing eight fantastic strikes by apprentices from across the Academy leagues in April.
The winner will become the ninth player to seal a place in LFE’s Goal of the Season contest, joining Luca Connell (Bolton Wanderers), Bradley Webb (Bristol City), Callum King-Harmes (Bolton Wanderers), Owen James (Oxford United), Lewis Farmer (Sheffield Wednesday), Adam O’Reilly (Preston North End), Jenson Wright (Milton Keynes Dons) and Dan Bradshaw (Forest Green Rovers).
LFE Apprentice of the Year Max Bird kicks things off with a delightful curler from the edge of the area for Under-18 Premier League National champions Derby County.
Carlisle United first-year apprentice Taylor Charters chose power over precision, but produced the same result as his left-footed hit flew into the top corner.
Two Preston North End starlets go head-to-head after scoring spectacular strikes against Wigan Athletic in the Lancashire FA Youth Cup final, with Jack Baxter scoring an audacious effort from inside his own half and January Goal of the Month winner Adam O’Reilly smashing home from range.
Elsewhere, Sheffield Wednesday’s Liam Shaw finished off a neat one-two with a low drive from outside the area, while Kane Thompson-Sommers completed a terrific solo run by cutting inside from the right flank and slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Miquel Scarlett applied a composed finish to cap off an excellent team move by Gillingham Under-18s and Doncaster Rovers first-year right-back Elliott Walker is also in the mix after netting his first goal of the season by finding the top corner with his weaker left foot.
