CARLISLE HALF: Event organisers team up with local Hospice

Eden Valley Hospice proud to be charity of the year

3 July 2019

It’s now just two months until the Carlisle Half Marathon sprints off at Brunton Park, and we’re delighted to announce that interest is high in what is going to be a fantastic event.

The Carlisle Half, which incorporates a 10k run and a 2k Family Fun Run, is scheduled to start and finish at the home of Carlisle United Football Club on Sunday 1 September.

And Ian Milburn, of Event Organisers IM Running Events Ltd, is proud to confirm that Eden Valley Hospice has once again been chosen as the Carlisle Half charity of the year.

“Our aim from day one has been to provide an event that is accessible for all ages and abilities and which gives runners the chance to raise money for some fantastic causes.

“Everybody in Carlisle and the wider region knows the good and vital work Eden Valley Hospice does and it was a no-brainer for us to choose them as one of our charity partners as well.

“With them having some runner places as well, we hope that will help them to raise even more funds.”

Sam Johnston, community fundraiser from Eden Valley Hospice, said: “We’re really excited to have charity places for the Carlisle Half this year. We can’t wait to get our supporters signed up!

“Last year our supporters raised over £1,000 at the event and we can only see it going from strength-to-strength as a great fundraiser for us. Having the start and finish is such an iconic setting as Brunton Park is a huge draw!

“Events like the Carlisle Half allow the Hospice to care for families in our community when they need it the most - we couldn’t do it without them!”

The route will see runners start at and finish at Brunton Park, and Half Marathon runners will head into Rickerby Park to Rickerby, Linstock and Crosby on Eden before heading back towards the stadium in what is classed as an out and back route.

10k runners will double back from Longlands Road and enter the stadium after passing through Rickerby Park and Stoneyholme.

The Fun Run route is planned to go through the Town Centre and back to Brunton Park via the Carlisle Youth Zone.
