MANAGER: They're a good team on their day

John Sheridan looks ahead to the trip to Crawley

21 December 2018

Manager John Sheridan took a look ahead to this weekend’s Crawley trip at his weekly press conference.

“We go into the weekend feeling confident,” he said. “I knew that type of performance was in us and the players should know themselves that they’ve now got to try and do it over a longer period of time.

“It was good for the supporters to see us play like that but I’m still not happy that we haven’t got more points on the board. That’s why we’re now taking it one game at a time. The next one is Crawley and that’s the next one we will look to get right.”

“What I want from the players is for them to go there believing they can get the three points,” he added. “It’ll be a tough game because, as we see every week, you just don’t know what’s going to happen in this division.

“Crawley are a very good team on their day and if you let them play, they’ll play. They’ve had a couple of bad results recently, including at Macclesfield, but I’ve watched the footageof that game and they had a lot of chances.

“The big striker is out with a suspension, so that’s a plus for us. Their manager hasn’t been there for too long, but they’ll be looking forward to playing at home and getting a good result.

“Our away record is decent so we know we can cause them one or two problems. It’s another game where we need to be on our toes, but we’ll look to attack and take the game to them.”

“It’s a tight pitch and they have some good players,” he said. “The new manager will have brought different ideas and he’s probably still in the process of implementing things and getting it to how he wants it to be.

“We’ll have to be aware of that but, like I say, it shouldn’t stop us from looking to do things our way.”

And his last word was for the fans who are set to embark on the 696-mile round trip.

“This really is a long trip and credit to them,” he said. “We’re leaving on Friday and I’m not sure how long it’ll take us.

“Hopefully the fans who come will get there and back safely and, more than anything, I hope we get three points for them as a reward.”
