LOAN: Midfielder makes move to Cumbria

Half-season deal for attack-minded Fleetwood player

31 August 2018

Carlisle United have today signed Fleetwood Town midfielder Jack Sowerby on a half-season loan deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until the January transfer window.

Sowerby, 23, has made a total of 52 appearances for his parent club, bagging seven goals in all competitions along the way.

A latecomer to the professional ranks, he joined Fleetwood via Squires Gate having made his name as a prolific striker.

He played his youth football at the Preston Sports Arena before being snapped up by Preston North End at the tender age of just eight years old.

Following almost a decade at Deepdale he moved into the non-league scene with north-west counties outfit Squires Gate. Having notched 20 goals in 21 games during his second season with the club he was invited to join Fleetwood's development squad, initially on a trial basis.

Sowerby made his first team debut for Fleetwood in August 2015, as he came off the bench for Antoni Sarcevic, but had to wait until October 2016 for his first goal against Peterborough United.

Sowerby made 33 appearances in the 2017/18 season, scoring five goals in the process. His last minute goal against Chorley in the Emirates FA Cup first round sent the Cod Army into the second round against non-league side Hereford.

Jack Sowerby will wear squad number 18.

This deal remains subject to the clearance of all relevant paperwork.
