EFL: Striker nominated for Player of the Month award

2 May 2017

Forward Jabo Ibehre in the running for divisional award

After a haul of five goals in five games United striker Jabo Ibehre finds himself in the running for April's Sky Bet Player of the Month award, fresh from his latest strike against Newport County at the weekend.

Manager Keith Curle said: "He's hungry, he's in a determined mood and he wants to score goals. That's the kind of Jabo Ibehre I like. He's come back into the side and he's firing on all cylinders.

"He's got into the zone where he feels he's going to score every time he gets the ball. Along with Jamie Proctor he's become a very difficult player to handle and defences aren't enjoying coming up against those two at all.

"He's earned this nomination and I'm really pleased for him."

The Aril nominees are:

Luke Berry (Cambridge United) – midfielder
Nobody has done more to propel Cambridge towards the play-offs than 24-year-old Berry. Breaking forward at every opportunity and clinical in front of the net, he scored five goals in April - half of his side’s total in the month.

Mickey Demetriou (Newport County) – central defender
An invaluable January addition to the Newport defence. Dominant as his side kept four clean sheets, he also made a telling impact with three goals, including a long-range winner against Crawley and a crucial free-kick against Yeovil.

Jabo Ibehre (Carlisle United) - striker
Just when it looked as if Carlisle might slip out of the play-off places, up stepped the veteran forward to re-ignite their promotion push. Demonstrated his predatory instincts with five goals in successive matches to close out the month.

Harry Pell (Cheltenham Town) - midfielder
Played a pivotal role in ensuring Cheltenham’s EFL status with his all-action style. His four goals in April showed off his comfort with both feet, a dreamy free-kick against Morecambe with his right, a driven finish against Grimsby with his left.
