BIG MATCH PREVIEW: Cambridge United

10 March 2017

Everything you need to know ahead of the weekend game

United face Cambridge in the latest big game here at Brunton Park on Saturday with the Cumbrians looking to get back to winning ways following a run of disappointing results.

The boys from the The Abbey have lost just once in their last five outings but they head north to face a side which is determined to put on an entertaining and points-winning performance.

Manager Keith Curle said: “Nobody has been happy with the recent results but the pleasing thing is that we have a group of players who are desperate to put it right. They don’t like losing games and they know how hard they’ve worked to get to where they are.

“This is the business end of the season and everyone has been reminded that any mistakes made have to be done in the right areas as we try to do the right things. What I can guarantee is that we’re going to give everything we’ve got as we look to finish the season off successfully.”

Our Official Level Playing Field Fixture

The Carlisle United Community Sports Trust is pleased to support the 2017 Level Playing Field (LPF) Weeks of Action – with this Saturday being our official Level Playing Field fixture.

This annual initiative, now in its twelfth year, aims to celebrate access and inclusion for disabled sports fans across England and Wales.

We are pleased to welcome students from the James Rennie School as our Guard of Honour and our Mental Health Football Group will also be in attendance as special guests at the game.

We hope they all have a great day.

The Mascots

Our mascots for this game are Alfie Smith and Thomas Forster.

Both lads like PE and maths at school and their favourite players are Mark Gillespie and Jabo Ibehre respectively.

Have a great day!

Our match mascots are chosen at random from our Junior Blue membership - to find out more about our Junior Blues membership, click HERE.

The Man in the Middle

Our match referee this weekend is Mr Robert Jones.

Mr Jones has been in charge of 31 games so far this season and has shown 99 yellow cards and three reds.

We’ve seen him twice so far this season – for our away win at Barnet back in August and for the away win at Notts County at the end of December. Jabo Ibehre went in the book against the Bees and Shaun Miller, Luke Joyce and Jamie Devitt were booked when we played the Magpies.

Our betting partner Sky Bet has some fantastic odds available on all match markets – click HERE for more details.

The Match Programme

Issue 20 of The Blues is on sale from our usual programme selling points and outlets around the ground.

This week we get to know striker Jamie Proctor just a little bit better than we knew him before – everything from who he feels is the biggest pain in the squad to what music he would choose to relax to.

Packed with stats, facts, history and features, and priced at just £2, it’s one not to be missed.
