SKY BET: Wide man nominated for Player of the Month award

3 January 2017

Nicky Adams in running for monthly award

United winger Nicky Adams has been nominated for the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month award for December following an impressive run of performances which was capped off when he was selected for the League Two Team of the Year on the same day as he provided two assists at Meadow Lane.

Adams, who suffered just one league defeat in the 2016 calendar year, joins Scott Kashket, Oscar Threlkeld and Ollie Watkins on the list for the December award.

Manager Keith Curle said: "We're pleased for Nicky because he's settled well and he's become an important member of the squad.

"He enjoys creating chances and you can see in his approach that he's enjoying his football here. The pleasing thing is that we think there's still more to come from him."

The list of nominees for the December award is:

Nicky Adams (Carlisle United) – winger

Last season’s Sky Bet League Two assists king is at it again. The Carlisle players now have full confidence in his delivery from wide positions. Four of his side’s seven goals in the month came from his slide-rule balls and pinpoint crosses.

Scott Kashket (Wycombe Wanderers) - striker

Unwanted by Leyton Orient, the 20-year-old has been converted from winger to striker by Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth and is proving his worth every match. A natural finisher, he scored in each of his side’s four December games.

Oscar Threlkeld (Plymouth Argyle) – full-back

Found himself thrust into an unfamiliar left-back role because of injuries and adapted superbly as Argyle kept three clean sheets in four games. His infectious running was seen in midfield against Crawley Town when he scored the goal that took Plymouth top.

Ollie Watkins (Exeter City) – striker

Five goals in four games for the 21-year-old included a hat-trick in the 4-1 New Year’s Eve win at Newport Town. What makes the feat even more impressive is that he spent most of December playing in a slightly deeper role, breaking from midfield.
