CONTRACTS: Young defender leaves club

19 January 2017

Kevin Wright moves on from United

Carlisle United Football Club can confirm that defender Kevin Wright has left the club by mutual consent.

The Blues signed the versatile player on a short-term deal in December. This was extended at the beginning of January 2017 and he made a total of three first team appearances.

Wright, 21, joined Premier League giants Chelsea when he was 10-years old and worked his way through the youth ranks to earn his first professional deal at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2013.

Manager Keith Curle said: “We’ve terminated his contract early to give him as much chance as possible within the transfer window to get himself sorted.

“He’s another who wasn’t getting the game time he needed and he’s at an age and a stage of his career where that needs to be the case.

“We wish him well as he moves on from the club.”
