FORMER PLAYERS: United heroes to play open door game on Saturday

12 October 2016

Former Blues to play on Brunton Park training pitch this weekend

A team made up of former-Blues heroes will play the Thursby Veterans in an open door game on the Brunton Park training pitch on Saturday ahead of the day’s big kick off when the first team face their second derby-day in a fortnight against Hartlepool United.

Fans favourites Graham Anthony, Paul Gorman, Tony Hopper, Chris Lumsdon, Gareth McAlindon, Mike McCartney, Ian Milburn, George Oghani, Paul Proudlock, Jeff Thorpe, Derek Walsh and Andy Watson have already confirmed, with other well known names also lined up to make an appearance.

Supporters are invited to come down to watch the game [kick off at 12pm] before joining the players for a drink and an informal Q&A session in the Sunset Suite [details below] ahead of the main feature of the day when United host local rivals Hartlepool at 3pm.

Sales and Marketing Director Phil King said: “We had a very successful event like this before the Plymouth game and the feedback we got from everybody was that they wanted to see more of the same. Thanks to a lot of assistance from Derek Walsh and Colin Carter [Yesss Electrical] we’ve been able to arrange another fixture for this weekend which we know will be just as keenly contested as the big kick off will be at 3pm. Saturday is a big game for us so we want to do as much as possible to encourage fans down to Brunton Park and to create a good atmosphere.

“We think it’s a great way for everybody to start the day and we’ve combined the football with special offers on food and drink and a Question and Answer session with some of the players in the Sunset Suite from 1pm onwards. Hopefully as many fans as possible will be able to come along to enjoy both games.”

12pm - Carlisle United XI v Thursby Veterans - Brunton Park Training Pitch (FREE ENTRY - Sunset Suite open from 11.30am).

Please note - our Supporters Car Park will be open early for this event - parking costs just £2.50 for the day.

11.30am to 2pm – Happy Hour in the Sunset Suite. £3 per pint for John Smiths, Fosters and Strongbow. Pie and a Pint just £5.50.

1.30pm – Q&A in the Sunset Suite with Paul Proudlock and George Oghani.
