INTERVIEW: The manager's words sealed the deal for me

15 June 2016

Part one of an interview with new arrival Reggie Lambe

Bermudan international wide man Reggie Lambe spoke this week about his delight at securing a move up north to Carlisle ahead of the 2016/17 season.

“I’m very pleased and thankful to have this all done now,” he said. “It’s been finalised much quicker than I thought, but I knew this was where I wanted to be as soon as I met the manager.

“He put his philosophy to me and he spoke about where he wants the club to be. That sealed the deal for me. The good thing was that he could see me playing a part within the style he wants to use and he made me feel like I will always have a place in his thinking.

“It’s been made clear that I’ll have to work for anything I get but I know he wants me to play my football and show people what I can do. That’s excellent for me. I think it’s always good when you know that the manager has confidence in your abilities.

“I’m looking forward to getting started and to paying him back for the faith he’s shown in me. I just want to get back to work and get going now.”

On the other options on the table as he considered his move to Cumbria, he said: “There were other offers for me to think about but, like I say, I was clear I wanted to come here once I spoke to the gaffer.

“The only slight thought in my mind was the distance involved, because my family live in Ipswich, and that means they won’t be able to get to many games to see me, and things like that.

“Other than that it was a really easy decision because all of the members of staff I’ve spoken to are saying the same things. The club wants to achieve a lot this season and I want to be part of that. The location doesn’t matter as much when you’re coming to a good place.”

“I’ve seen the interviews with the other players who have signed recently and it’s good to hear they have the same vision for the club,” he commented. “Hopefully we’ll all pull together to achieve it.

“People have mentioned going for automatic promotion and that would be really good. It’s a fairly new group of players but there’s no reason why we can’t kick on. I’m at a stage of my career where I’m ready for something like it. I haven’t achieved anything in terms of winning things up to now so I’ve come here to get some real success under my belt.”

The second part of this interview will appear on the official website on Thursday morning.
