MANAGER: This is Carlisle United - this is us

Keith Curle ahead of the Warrington friendly

Manager Keith Curle spoke to us about the team training camp in Lancashire this week ahead of the Wednesday evening friendly against Warrington Town FC.

“Being away for a week like this has given us a change of scenery,” he said. “That changes the focus slightly because it means we can take the players out of their normal environment and make sure they’re concentrating completely on the messages we have for them.

“I know they have no distractions at all and the work we do on the coaching ground will become the main thrust of their week. There are important messages we want to get across about the way we want to do things at the club and how we want to play our football going forward.

“Going forward we want people to know what we’re about and we want people to look at us and see that we’re saying – this is Carlisle United, this is us.

“It’s been a good week and the lads will have been able to get to know each other more than they already have, because I have to say that the squad is coming together really well.”

“We’re looking forward to the Warrington game,” he told us. “We’ve had a number of different venues to go to but they are always competitive.

“Probably the only disappointing thing about our pre-season schedule is that we haven’t been able to slot a home game in there. That would have been nice but the practicalities surrounding the pitch preparation meant that we had to give Dave [Mitchell] and his team the best opportunity they needed to get the playing surface into the excellent condition we are all used to seeing.

“I had a look at it on Sunday and the grass is growing really well, which is pleasing. A bumper home game is definitely something we would like to be able to arrange for next pre-season.

“However, we’re pleased with what we’ve got this season in terms of the opposition we face. Warrington will be another club who will look after us but they will want to show they can compete. As ever, our lads have to deal with that and hopefully we’ll see another step in our own pre-season progression.”
