United kept possession well early in the piece and they were rewarded for their patience with 11 minutes on the click when Shaun Miller found a yard of space out wide. He looked up and clipped a cross to the back stick where the unmarked Jason Kennedy did the rest with a well-placed header.

The Yellows had some good spells and they went close on the half hour when Dean was played into space by a lovely through ball. It appeared that all he had to do was pick his spot but he lost his bearings as he bent a powerful shot wide.

Carlisle doubled their lead with the next attack of the game when Adams jinked back and thumped a low cross into the mix. The ball struck a hand and Referee Nik Barnard wasted no time at all in pointing to the spot. Danny Grainger put it on the penalty spot and drilled it past Wills despite a good attempt at making the save by the full length stopper.

The goal of the game came just before half time when Reggie Lambe wound his way past two challenges before he unleashed a wicked and fierce drive. Wills tried desperately to get his fingers to it but he could do nothing as it flew into the top corner.

Chances came and went for the visitors through the second half but there was to be just one more addition to the score sheet when Wyke pulled wide during another patient build-up. It eventually came to him and he put his laces through the shot to rattle it into the far corner.
