MANAGER: We're prepared to wait

Keith Curle on Everton midfielder Joe Williams

We spoke to manager Keith Curle as he confirmed that an approach for 19 year-old Everton midfielder Joe Williams had been turned down.

"I'll be honest and say I don't think we're going to get anyone in before the Leyton Orient game tomorrow night," he said. "Myself, Lee Dykes and Colin West have had a busy weekend making phone calls.

"We had one that was very close but last minute the club decided they're going to wait to see if any more offers come in towards the end of the window."

"We had a similar situation with Joe Williams at Everton," he explained. "We showed an interest in him after we'd watched him two or three times.

"I had a conversation with Roberto [Martinez] just after we played Everton and he passed us on to Joe Royle and David Unsworth, who ultimately make the decisions for the lad.

"I also spoke to his representatives but I fully understand that Everton want to wait to see how close he gets to the first team and also see what other options he has available.

"In their opinion another option might suit him more than ourselves, but we won't stamp our feet. He's their player and they're paying his wages. They're well within their rights to do what they think is best for their player.

"It might be a bit of a waiting game and it does mean we might have to go down to the last hour of the last day and we could then see an influx of players. If it means we get the right player in, we're prepared to wait."
