Keith Curle ahead of the away trip to Northampton
Manager Keith Curle spoke to us ahead of the trip to Northampton on Tuesday night.
“We're coming up against a team who will have a lot of confidence,” he said. “They've had some good results, so it's important we try and nullify the flow to their play and try and get the ball in and around their defensive third more than it's around ours.
“I think they would like it to be an expansive game of football but we want to condense it and make it a toe to toe encounter. The expectation will be on them because they've had two home games against two teams in the bottom four. They'll have seen it as a good opportunity to get maximum points. They're 50% of the way there so we'll have to make sure we cause them problems.”
“There's a story within their result against Tranmere,” he added. “They didn't have it all their own way even though they got the three points. We’ll get chances and we'll have to make sure we put them away, and show that ruthless edge we need in our fight to survive.
“The clean sheet on Saturday gives us a platform to build on. As a unit, and a team, the lads will gain confidence from that, especially because of how we got it. We didn't get it all our own way, we needed to be competitive, combative and brave, and we did it well.”
“The playing surface dictated how we played the game on Saturday,” he commented. “That will be different tonight because we’ll be able to play more in the right areas on the pitch we’ll be on at Northampton.”
And on the pursuit of another loan signing, he said: “We're still waiting for answers from a few clubs regarding players. If we're able to get anything across the line before 12pm today the likelihood is they will be included in the squad, rather than the starting eleven.”
