MANAGER: Building something at this club

6 February 2015

Keith Curle ahead of the trip to Tranmere

Manager Keith Curle spoke to us ahead of the weekend trip to Tranmere.

“It’s an important game and I’ve said all week that if we could play it right now, I would,” he said. “If we’d had the opportunity I’d have played it on Sunday rather than wait around all week.

“We know you need time to prepare, obviously, but that shows we’re all looking forward getting out there and doing the job. We’re not scared of games because we know we’re building something at this club.”

“The players are enjoying their football and they’re looking forward to the battles and confrontations,” he added. “Micky Adams has a reputation for sending teams out to work hard and they’ll be difficult to beat. He’ll come up against a team that will mirror that. We won’t ask for any quarter because we’re prepared to go toe to toe with any team in this division. When that’s done we’ll get the ball down and play.”

“Micky has taken over a team that was on the slide at a football club which has tradition,” he commented. “They’ve been used to playing at a higher level and sometimes you need a change of culture, direction and leadership. He’s been a very good appointment for them and he’s got them playing with a bit of belief.”

“There are still lots of points to play for and there are going to be some massive twists and turns along the way,” he said. “A lot can change over the course of a week or ten days, so it’s important to focus on the positives as each game goes by.

“The planning and preparation will be done and the players know they’ve to go out and perform. We’ve looked at Tranmere, and how they can play, and we know they have good strengths and some good footballers in there.

“We think they have weaknesses as well and we’ll try to exploit those. Our mindset has to be to stop the opposition from playing, whatever the situation.

“We’ve been playing well away from home and I think there was only Portsmouth, when we lost two early goals, where I didn’t like it. We’re going to get disappointments between now and the end of the season but we’ve got something to build on. We’re very respectful of what Tranmere have got but we’re not fearful of it.”
