“I know this team will win football matches but it does need to happen for us quickly,” he said. “I back the players I’ve brought into this club to do that. 

“I think the fans will back us as well. They know that playing survival football hasn’t worked for us for the last couple of years. A manager has come in with different ideas and a different philosophy and what I’m asking is for everyone to give me time. 

“We’re putting pillars in place which will give us the platform to be successful. Sometimes it can be a culture shock when things are done differently, but we’re putting a squad together which we think will entertain and get us results. 

“The good thing is that most of the supporters who come will have a different idea about who should be in the starting eleven and who should be in the 18. That’s a sign of having a squad that has options.”

“Saturday’s selection showed that,” he added. “I thought it was a perfect game for Troy [Archibald-Henville] to step into because there was no real threat in wide areas from them. 

“He was able to bed himself in and be a physical presence and he showed good quality on the ball when he had time. He definitely added something to the team. Gary Dicker’s understanding of his role gave a good starting point and a good foundation to build off. 

“The players who came in worked well together and I thought when we got the equaliser there was only going to be one team who would win it. We’ll keep making the selections we think will get the results we want because, as I’ve said before, we’re able to put square pegs in square holes and that’s a good position for us to be in.”
