INTERVIEW: Quality in the changing room

13 October 2014

Hayden White with Stevenage match reaction

Bolton loanee Hayden White spoke to us about another clean sheet as he helped the team to a third consecutive victory against Stevenage on Saturday.

“This was a really good result for us,” he said. “The gaffer has come in and he’s changed a lot of things. He’s made a lot of improvements and we’re starting to see the benefit out on the pitch.

“When we’re out there it feels like everyone has confidence and that we can make things happen from literally anything. As a defender this result was even better because that’s the third clean sheet for us in a row in the league.

“I’m enjoying my time here because I think I’ve shown people what I can do. I still think there’s a lot more I can do and that I’ve got a lot of improvements to make.”

“Everyone is really enjoying their football at the moment,” he confirmed. “That’s always the way when you’re winning and it’s even better to show the home fans what we’re about.

“It hasn’t been the best time for them but the reaction when we scored showed they want us to succeed. Things are changing a bit and it looks like they’re feeling much happier.

“To be honest, it hasn’t ever felt like a club that’s been struggling. There’s always been a good atmosphere in the changing room and all that’s really happened is that it’s got even better.”

“Getting the assists for the goals feels good,” he told us. “It’s all about the result and the team and as long as we’re winning I don’t mind who puts it in the net.

“I’ve been close a couple of times myself and I do hope one is coming but, like I say, it’s about the result at the end of the day.

“The gaffer keeps telling me to just keep going as much as I can. He wants me to get forward, and obviously defend as well, and I’ll do it for him as much as I can.”

“I think league football has been exactly what I expected,” he said. “I’d been told what it would be like and I’ve got a lot of friends who play every week. This experience is going to help my development so I’m more than happy to do it.

“I’ll just keep playing my football now and let whoever is involved in talking about me sort out what is going to happen next. If the decision is that Bolton want me to stay then I am happy to do that.

“The manager has been amazing to work with. He’s the first one out on the training field every day and he’s constantly showing us exactly how it’s done. He likes a fine as well, even if I say so myself. I’ve had a few for talking so you tend not to get away with too much!”

“There’s a lot of confidence around at the moment but that’s because there’s a lot of quality in that changing room,” he concluded. “We’re only going to get better with the way things are going.

“The clean sheets are a target as a team because you’re always going to have a chance if you’re doing it. We’ve had a good run of them at the moment and it’s something we’re going to try and keep up.”
